You’re in your favourite chair, snuggled, relaxed and content ….. Feels nice right? We enjoy it don’t we? It’s comfortable of course we do!
But here is where the danger starts. This is not where Great Leaders live, this is not where we become inspirations to our people, and this is not where we lead at our best. This is for relaxation purposes only but sometimes we get confused.
We confuse comfort with success, average with amazing and Leadership with stagnation.
As a leader the only time we should be comfortable is when we are in our favourite chair not when we are leading our teams. As a leader your team needs you at your best and giving them your best to help them succeed every single day. This means we have to keep evolving as the needs of our team and business evolve.
So how do I keep growing outside my comfort zone? New. New challenges, new skills and trying new things to grow your skill set and your team. I once had a leader say to me “get comfortable with being uncomfortable” and it took me years to figure out what that truly meant. When you have that nervous feeling, or when we try things for the first time, or even walk into a room where you don’t know anyone but you do it anyway that is the essence of being comfortable with being uncomfortable. Feeling the feelings and still taking action because you know deep down this is the right action you need right now to get to the next level as a leader and for your team.
As Leaders our success and the success of our team depends on our growth as a Leader. Just like in business if you are not moving forward than you are moving backwards. So it is vital to keep stretching our comfort zone to ensure we are moving forward and bring our team with us for the journey.
