Inner Voice, everyone has one and it’s the voice we listen to more than anyone else in our life. This can be amazing if that inner voice is kind and uplifting but if it’s ugly or bad then it can also have a huge impact on us as a person and even more so as a leader.
Leaders more than anyone else need to be aware of the messages this voice is sending and what to drown out and what to really listen to. But this isn’t a choice we are making moment to moment but more a habit we don’t even know we have.
So how do I change a habit that I don’t even know I have? Awareness.
Start being aware and what your inner voice is saying in different situations in your life.
When you are talking to a prospect does it say “they will love this product!” Or “they probably wont be interested”? Both will give very different results in how you deliver the message to your prospect and of course if you convert!
Start being aware what your inner voice is saying and make note of the things you hear often and see what patterns emerge. Writing this down is key as once it is written down it is clearer for us and we can more easily ask is it true?
Once you know what conversations are really going on, and what triggers you have you can start to rewrite the conversation for the better!
Now this doesn’t happen overnight but once we shine a light on the ugly stuff we can really see if it is actually true (which 99% wont be) and once we recognise this as false, every time it comes up we can remind ourselves of the truth by rewriting the conversation.
So instead of hearing “they are so bored with you right now” when you are training your team or running a meeting, check in and ask a question to see if this is true. Once you see it’s not you can move forward and very soon you will be listening to your team instead of that little voice telling you you are anything less than awesome! After a little while that voice too will be your biggest cheerleader if you stick with it.
So start today, check in with that inner voice and start turning it from ugly to awesome!
