Getting a team that makes decisions is an asset for any business but sometimes we don’t know where to start to even begin to train our team in how to make decisions so I’ve got the big 5!
1 – Explain the WHY of Your Business – One of the key things anyone making decisions in your business must know is the WHY or purpose of your business. Knowing the values and direction makes making the right decisions much easier as it is a lighthouse to guide the team.
2 – Start Small – Start small with the decisions you get the team to make, this is not only for the team but for you to get used to someone else making decisions in your business which can be the hardest part of the whole process, letting go!
3 – Never Give More than 2 options – Studies have shown that once given more than 2 options our brain struggles to make a decision, so stick to 2 when looking at helping customers or making quick decisions. Of course there are times when there are more options to review but to begin with use this a rule of thumb to make decision making easier.
4 – Praise all Decision and then Talk about Opportunity – How you repsond when the wrong decision is made is more important that anything else you do with your team. If a mistake has been made exploding only makes your team never want to make a decision again and you are back to square 1. So praise the iniative and then discuss what could be done next time.
5 – Grow to Bigger Decisions – Once you start the ball rolling the key is momentum, keep getting your team to make decisions and strengthening their skills till soon you have a team that is actually help grow your business not just getting through the day.
