1 – Write down what you want!
To focus on the positives you have to know what you want. So make sure you write down what it is you want so you have a goal.
Short term goals, aim for 3 to 6 months.
Long term goals, can be from 1 to 5 years depending on the goal.
When writing your goals be really clear what it actually is that you want, is it a job role a promotion, a different level you what to be at, write it down and get focussed!
Make sure your goals are short and sweet and put somewhere that you can see them everyday and this helps with daily motivation.
2 – Music is the key!
Now this may sound left field but there have been many studies that link motivation and mood shifts with music and I know how a great tune can take me from sad to busting a move just like that. Think of song that makes you feel pumped up and happy, the one that when it comes on the road in the car you turn it up and just can’t help but do a little dance.
Use that song and others like it to make a playlist that you can have with you at any time to get you pumped up, before an interview, a presentation or even a meeting with the boss to make sure you are at your cofident best.
3 – Picture it!
Have a picture of what the future looks like, whether that is a single picture, a collage you create or a visualisation whatever works for you is the best choice. Make sure this picture lines up with your goals and is as detailed as possible so your picture IS reality and your future.
Make sure you not only have the visual, but you feel it, smell and taste it so you can call on this when you need to reenergise your motivation and keep going towards that new role!
